Patient Participation Group Report
A PPG (Patient Participation Group) was established in November 2013 and consists of 12 members of the public who are patients registered at the Practice who represent a cross section of our Practice population. The Group has appointment a Chair, Vice-chair, Secretary and a Treasurer.
Establishing Patient Representation
All Clinical and Non Clinical Staff were aware of the formation of a PPG and were asked to submit the names of any suitable patients for consideration of inclusion in the PPG. It was also advertised in the February edition of the local Parish Council publication ‘Broughton Matters’. Posters were placed in the village Post Office and in the Surgery.
PPG meetings are held monthly and are attended by the PPG members, Dr Brunt, GP, Justine Watkinson, Practice Manager, Tracey Pemberton, Assistant Practice Manager and Carol Brookes, Senior Receptionist. The PPG also have monthly meetings without Practice representation but secretarial support is available for the taking of minutes.

PATIENTS SATISFACTION SURVEY 2016
In 2013 The Orchard Medical Practice set up a Patient Participation Group (PPG). One of the first initiatives carried out was to compile and distribute a Patient Satisfaction Survey to identify areas of concern relating to the levels of service provision delivered by the Practice.
The questionnaire identified potential areas where it was considered that improvement could be made in accessing appointments ie; availability, surgery opening hours being too closely aligned to normal office hours, poor reception and waiting room lay-out plus the telephone answering service and low staffing levels at the reception desk resulting in queues forming at the reception desk.
Since then the PPG has worked closely with the Practice in delivering the following:
Extended opening hours – Appointments are available from 7.30 am on a Tuesday, Wednesday (Ullesthorpe Surgery only) and Friday morning. These appointments should be accessed only by Patients who are unable to attend during normal working hours.
The facility to book appointments on-line - Patients who are not already using this service and who would like to register to book appointments on-line, should call in at the Surgery and complete the necessary forms.
The facility to request repeat prescriptions on-line – Patients who are not already using this service and who would like to register to request repeat medication on-line, should call in at the Surgery and complete the necessary forms.
Text Messaging – Patients receive an initial text message confirming that an appointment has been made. Patients receive a further reminder text message 48 hours prior to their appointment.
Suggestion boxes have been placed in the waiting area at both the Broughton Astley the Ullesthorpe Surgeries. Any suggestions received are discussed at the PPG meetings and responded to as appropriate.
Waiting Room Refurbishment - The Surgery received a very generous donation from Jelson Homes which enabled the Surgery to refurbish the waiting room chairs and to erect some partitioning in the waiting area. The PPG Group, Partners and staff hope that Patients enjoy the new waiting room arrangement.
Following completion of the initial survey in 2013 some improvements have been addressed. The PPG considered it was important to repeat the Patient Satisfaction Survey during 2016 to enable further improvements to service provisions the Patients consider beneficial to the Practice population.
