Have your say on new same-day GP appointments

Patients across Leicestershire are invited to share their views on the new same-day GP appointments available during evenings, weekends and bank holidays since 1 April. These appointments aim to make it easier for people to get urgent help for non-life-threatening health concerns at the right place and time.

You cannot specifically request one of the new appointments. If you need to be seen on the same day, NHS 111 may offer you one of the new appointments. A small number of appointments are also available through GP practices on a weekday. There is nothing you need to do differently, and you should use your GP practice and NHS 111 as normal.

If you’ve used one of the new appointments — or even if you haven’t yet — your feedback will help the NHS understand what’s working well and where improvements might be needed in future. The questionnaire takes just a few minutes and is open to anyone registered with a Leicestershire GP practice.

Need help fast and it isn’t life-threatening?
The NHS in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland has issued new advice to help you get the right NHS care when you need it quickly and recommends just two simple steps for situations when it isn’t life-threatening.

• Step 1: Try to manage the problem yourself or get help from a local pharmacy, NHS 111 online, or the NHS App.
• Step 2: If that doesn’t work or the problem is more serious, contact the practice or NHS 111 (when we are closed). We will help arrange the right appointment at the practice or other nearby services, including appointments for the same day if you need it.

Following this advice will help you get care from the right place, with the right health professional, and avoid long waits or trips to walk-in services that might not be suitable.

Signposting

External Services

Many health problems DO NOT need a Doctor or Nurse.  It is important that patients use their GP and A&E services appropriately.  There is a lot of useful information at www.nhsinform.co.uk. Efficient signposting can ensure that patients receive appropriate care by directing them to the correct point of service.  

Internal Service

All our Receptionists have been trained by our Clinical Team to ask appropriate questions when booking your appointment to enable patients to be directed to the most appropriate Clinician.
